Partnership with SWIFT

The wide range of sophisticated products that AEG offers ensures clients that their work is running smoothly, supported by efficient time-saving applications, advantageous communication and connectivity, a dedicated well-trained team and a secure environment.

A part of these products were created and developed in-house, while others have been selected from highly reputable international partners and subsequently customized by AEG team of experts – ensuring high standard of robust and reliable solutions to meet AEG clients’ satisfaction and retention.

In 1997 AEG started a new affiliation with SWIFT which served as a major catalyst in the expansion of the company’s business and services in the Middle East and Africa.

This strong partnership has developed in-depth knowledge of all SWIFT systems, especially those within the ALLIANCE software family. Therefore AEG is now the official SWIFT Regional Partner for the Middle East and Africa. As so they act as an extension of SWIFT in handling issues related to marketing, sales, queries and providing assistance.

As a certified SWIFTReady Services provider, AEG offers consultancy, full implementation, administrative training, local support and system integration. AEG has installed systems in more than 800 financial institutions in the Middle East, South Asia, Africa and Europe.

These systems and services can be divided according to the four types of SWIFT ALLIANCE interfaces:

  • Desktop interfaces
These enable manual creation of messages by an operator. Smaller organizations use them to create all of their messages, while larger ones tend to use them for message editing or repair.

  • Application integration
The application integration interfaces are adapters that allow the user to connect the existing applications to SWIFTNet.

  • Messaging interfaces
They do not actually generate messages, but they include the intelligence needed to process and route messages containing structured standards (such as MT for SWIFTNet FIN and MX SWIFTStandards XMLbased services like SWIFTNet Cash Reporting). They can be used in combination with a desktop interface, or plugged directly into the existing applications for full automation.

  • Communication interfaces
These provide the link between the interfaces generating the messages and the connection to SWIFTNet itself. The communication interfaces are used to consolidate the traffic flow from multiple messaging or desktop interfaces. They ease administration of the infrastructure, improve automation, and increase resilience and security.

They include the following product lines:

  • SWIFT Alliance Access, Entry, Messenger, Telex, PC Connect

  • SWIFTNet Link

  • SWIFT Alliance Gateway, Web station, File Act and Browzing

  • SWIFT Integration products (ADK, MME, CAS, MQ-Series)

  • Migrating third-party systems (Turbo, Merva/2, Merva/ESA, ST400, ST200, Fastwire, and Sachem) to the SWIFT Alliance product range

  • Integrating SWIFT systems with different ready-made and in-house developed banking application systems

  • Assisting in the implementation of RTGS payment systems

With SWIFTNet and its new Business Solutions, AEG focuses on SWIFTNet products such as cash management & reporting, corporate access (MA-CUG), ACH systems, FileAct and bulk transfers bank-to-bank and crossborder, EBA Step2, browsing, Web-enabled application and XML-standard.

Service Bureau
Since its foundation, AEG is known to be a turn-key solutions provider for all type institutions sizes. AEG is working on addressing customer needs in an accurate and timely manner and also offering state of the art solutions and quality support that help its customers achieve their goals.

As of starting to represent SWIFT AEG developed the AEG –SB.

AEG-SB is an advanced concept to share the SWIFTNet services in a very secure, auditable, controlled and cost effective manner. As well “The Business Partner-Service Bureau (BP-SB) relationship is just one of several ways SWIFT seeks to optimize its relationship with customers and to give the very best service to the whole of the SWIFT community”, Comments David Pryce, Director, Commercial Channels and Developing Markets, SWIFT.

Service Bureau Concept:
The service bureau is built around a SWIFT Alliance Gateway equipped with SWIFT Net Link, M-CPE, Firewall and Encryption devices etc…

The gateway works like a pipe between the bank and SWIFT. Service Bureau or Gateway administrators have no access to the messages passing through the gateway.

The AEG SB offers three layers of encryption and authentication:

  • First Layer : Communication security : Institution to SB encryption managed by hardware encryption devices at both ends

  • Second Layer : Software Encryption : The dataflow between the system at the institution and the SB is encrypted by SWIFTNet software encryption modules

  • Third Layer : Message authentication : Institution to SWIFT authentication of the sent and received messages

The AEG has Service Bureau located in Beirut, Bahrain and Cairo and is today the largest service Bureau in the world with more than 400 banks from 40 countries. The customer can freely choose to which AEG SB sites he will connect.

Service Bureau connectivity

The connectivity from the customer to the Service Bureau can be established using:

  • Leased Line connection

  • Microwave link

  • Connection through Internet Service Provider

  • Dial up line (as prime or backup connection)

  • SONEMA VSAT Connection

AEG-SB offers:

  • Shared connectivity to SWIFTNet for customers having their own SWIFT interface and wish to connect to SWIFT via the AEG-SB

  • Fully SWIFT Managed service for customers willing to outsource the SWIFT equipments and administration to the AEG-SB and concentrate on their core business.

The AEG-SB has Prime & DR sites located in different countries running in parallel guaranteeing perfect connectivity & guaranteeing (1) avoidance of unpredictable communication failure (2) a reliable, cost-effective & easily expandable set-up (3) the prime site has two gateways with two separate links to SWIFT. The gateways are operational simultaneously without interruption. As well, the prime site has a VSAT connection to connect it to any of the AEG-SB DR sites. This solution is crucial in case of failure of the international lines with SWIFT.
